15 Mins This
 passage
is
 a
continuation
 of
 Jesus’
 Sermon
on
 the
Mount.
In
it
Jesus
 talks
 about
what
he
would
like
his
followers
to
do
and
 be
 in
this
world:
 salt
 and
 light

Salt uses:

1. Give & enhance flavor

Salt
 is
very
different
from
 other
tastes
that
we
know.
If
Christians
 are
to
be
salt,
it
is
important
that
our
words,
attitudes
and
actions
are
 distinctive
from
everyone
else’s. Salt enhances whatever it is added to: Christians are to change the flavor of whatever the environment we find ourselves in. Instead of being influenced by culture, we are to influence our culture for good, just as salt brings out the best flavor of food.

2. Natural preservatives

It prevents food from spoiling (like the kimchi we talked about). In the same way we should act as preservatives: example of purity in a decaying world

V.13 Jesus
points
 out
 that
 salt
that
has
lost
its
flavor
 is
worthless;
it
is
 nothing
 more
than
sand.
In
the
same
way,
our
contributions
 to
God’s
 kingdom
are
worthless
if
we
are
not
acting
as
salt
in
our
world.

3. Natural antibiotics

Salt can be use as a natural anti bacterial, salt water can use for washing veggie & fruits, for gargle when we have sore throat or tooth ache. As Christians, when we are acting different with the indifferent world, our sympathy and care can give a good taste in other's people's life

Jesus’
 second
metaphor,
about
light,
 issues
 much
 the
same
call
as
the
first.

Light
drives
 our
darkness .

- A city light drew people from frightening danger

As we hold our light higher for Jesus, more and more people will run to him for eternal life.

We can hide our light with a covering: something that doesn't allow light of Jesus within us to shine. But we are called to let light shine so that everyone around us can see it. Finally,
we
are
 not
 called
 to
shine
for
our
own
benefit. Rather, our purpose to praise Jesus, the light of the world.
